Medical marijuana access in Kentucky continues to grow, giving patients more convenient options for purchasing regulated marijuana products. In addition to Speakeasy Dispensary’s opening, there are more important updates happening this month: The Post Dispensary is reopening, Blue Sage Dispensary is opening in Nicholasville, and Bluegrass CannaCare and Kentucky Alternative Care are expected to open within the next few weeks.
These developments are another step forward in Kentucky’s medical marijuana program and help ensure registered patients can conveniently access the marijuana products they need.
The Post Dispensary Reopens January 16
The Post Dispensary, the first medical marijuana dispensary that opened in Kentucky, is reopening on Friday, January 16. They temporarily closed due to extremely high patient demand.
When The Post first opened in December, patients from across the state quickly purchased available inventory, leading to a short closure. The dispensary has now restocked and is ready to serve registered patients once again.
The Post Dispensary details:
Reopening Date: Friday, January 16, 2026
Hours: Open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Location: 300 N Main St, Beaver Dam, KY
Patient Requirement: Must have a valid Kentucky medical marijuana card
Only registered Kentucky medical marijuana cardholders with a valid photo ID can purchase marijuana products. This means patients must first complete an appointment with a licensed nurse practitioner who evaluates their condition and determines if they qualify for medical marijuana.
After the appointment, patients must register with the state of Kentucky and submit their application for a medical marijuana card. Once the state reviews and approves the application, the patient receives their card and can legally visit dispensaries and purchase marijuana products.
Blue Sage Dispensary in Nicholasville
Blue Sage Dispensary is aiming to open the week of Monday, January 26, bringing medical marijuana access directly to patients in Nicholasville and nearby communities.
This new dispensary will help reduce travel time for patients and improve access to legal, state-regulated marijuana products.
Blue Sage Dispensary opening details:
Address: 172 Imperial Way, Nicholasville, KY
Planned Opening: Week of January 26, 2026
Hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Patient Requirement: Must have a valid Kentucky medical marijuana card
What Patients Should Know Before Visiting a Dispensary
Before visiting a medical marijuana dispensary in Kentucky, patients should make sure their medical marijuana card is active and bring a government-issued photo ID.
To get a card, patients first schedule an appointment with a licensed nurse practitioner who can evaluate their medical condition and determine whether medical marijuana is appropriate. If approved, the patient then completes a registration with the state of Kentucky and submits the required application. The state reviews the application, which can take up to 30 days, and once approved, the patient receives their medical marijuana card.
Dispensary staff can help patients understand available marijuana products, including different forms and strengths, and answer questions about proper use. In addition, our licensed nurse practitioners provide this same guidance during your medical marijuana appointment, helping you understand which marijuana options may best fit your symptoms and treatment goals. Purchases are limited to registered patients only.
What This Means for Kentucky Medical Marijuana Patients
The reopening of The Post Dispensary and the opening of Blue Sage Dispensary in Nicholasville show continued progress in Kentucky’s medical marijuana program. More dispensaries mean improved access, better availability, and a smoother experience for patients across the state.
Other dispensaries are getting ready to open, though some are still waiting for inventory. Beshear noted that Bluegrass CannaCare in Boone County will begin operations once sufficient product is available, and at Kentucky Alternative Care, the ribbon-cutting ceremony took place even though the first shipment had not yet arrived. The facility expects its initial delivery within the coming week. These developments highlight that Kentucky’s medical marijuana program continues to progress as more dispensaries prepare to welcome patients.
As the program continues to expand, patients who do not yet have a medical marijuana card should apply as soon as possible. You must have an active Kentucky medical marijuana card to visit dispensaries and make purchases, and the state can take up to 30 days to review and approve applications. Getting your card now helps ensure you are ready to access dispensaries as soon as they open.
