A major milestone occurred over the weekend. The Post Dispensary officially opened in Beaver Dam, becoming the first licensed medical marijuana dispensary to begin sales in Kentucky! After months of preparation and anticipation, patients are finally able to purchase regulated marijuana products in the Commonwealth.

A Long-Awaited Moment for Kentucky Patients

For many residents, this dispensary opening marked the beginning of the end of a long and frustrating wait. The state’s medical marijuana laws went into effect earlier this year, allowing physician evaluations to begin and marijuana cards to be issued even though dispensary sales had not started.

During that waiting period, thousands of Kentuckians took steps to prepare by securing a KY medical marijuanas card so they would be ready once dispensaries opened. Current reports show that more than 23,000 Kentuckians already have an active medical marijuana card.

The first weekend of sales drew significant attention, with inventory moving quickly throughout the day. Hundreds of patients showed up over the course of the weekend, many arriving early and waiting for hours to be among the first to legally purchase medical marijuana in Kentucky. At peak times, the line wrapped around the building.

Patients traveled from all over the state to take part in the opening, and many described the experience as both exciting and emotional after months of waiting. Staff members checked marijuana cards and IDs at the door, answered questions, and helped guide first-time visitors through the purchasing process as opening-day demand remained high.

Available product options at Kentucky dispensaries include edibles, tinctures, oils, vapes, and raw plant material that can be consumed through extraction or infusion methods. Smokable flower is not allowed. The available formats offer patients multiple ways to manage symptoms while remaining within Kentucky’s legal framework.
