Medical Marijuana Products in Kentucky

What Products Are Approved in Kentucky?

Kentucky's medical marijuana program allows patients to use a variety of medical cannabis products, including edibles, oils, tinctures, vapes, and raw plant material. SB 47 only allows the purchase of vapes for registered cardholders over the age of 21. These products will be available at licensed Kentucky marijuana dispensaries as soon as they open.

Additionally, SB 47 prohibits Kentuckians from consuming raw plant material by smoking. SB 47 also requires that all raw plant materials packaged in the Commonwealth be labeled as "not intended for consumption by smoking."

Edibles

Marijuana edibles are food items infused with cannabis, such as gummies, chocolates, and beverages. They provide a long-lasting and potent effect, but the onset is slow, typically taking 30 minutes to 2 hours for the full effects to kick in.

Oils

Marijuana oils are concentrated extracts that can be consumed orally or used for other purposes, like cooking or topical application. They are available in various forms, such as CBD oil or THC oil, and offer a discreet method of consumption.

Tinctures

Tinctures are liquid marijuana extracts typically taken sublingually (under the tongue), allowing for faster absorption into the bloodstream. They come in various potencies and offer precise dosing.

Vapes

Vaporized marijuana products, like vape pens or cartridges, heat cannabis to a temperature that produces vapor instead of smoke. Vaping is considered a quicker method of consumption compared to edibles, offering a fast onset of effects without the harmful byproducts of smoking.

Raw Plant Material

This is cannabis in its natural, unprocessed form, such as dried flowers or leaves, which can be used for making edibles, oils, tinctures, or topical products. It can be consumed through extraction or infusion methods but is not allowed to be smoked in Kentucky.
