A new state-licensed medical marijuana cultivation facility is coming to Nicholasville, marking another step forward in Kentucky’s medical marijuana program. With a new marijuana cultivator in the state, local jobs will be created, and the product supply for patients with a medical marijuana card will be strengthened as dispensaries continue to open.

A strong cultivation network is a key part of building a reliable medical marijuana system. With more licensed growers expanding cultivation, Kentucky is strengthening its in-state production to better support patients and local communities.

What’s Coming to Nicholasville

The cultivation facility will be built in Nicholasville by a company approved under Kentucky’s medical marijuana program. Local leaders have highlighted the economic benefits of this new cultivator, including new jobs and a long-term investment in Jessamine County.

The expansion of in-state cultivation will strengthen supply once products are ready and reach licensed dispensaries. Patients with a KY medical marijuanas card will benefit, as more locally grown marijuana means quicker availability at dispensaries.

Why Cultivation Is Important for Patients

Cultivation facilities serve as the foundation of Kentucky’s medical marijuana program; they produce the marijuana plants that are later processed into approved medical products for patients to purchase at dispensaries

Production is increasing, more dispensaries are opening, and soon, patients with a Kentucky medical marijuanas card will have better access statewide.

Strain Interest and Product Expectations

Patient interest continues to grow around the Gorilla Glue strain. This strain is widely known in other medical programs across the country for its strong effects, and patients often use it for help with managing pain, stress, and sleep-related conditions.

As cultivation expands in Kentucky, strains like Gorilla Glue will become available at licensed dispensaries.

Getting Ready as the Program Grows

To get a marijuana card in Kentucky, schedule an appointment with a licensed medical provider - that’s where we come in! After a patient is evaluated by our nurse practitioner and receives a marijuana recommendation, our team will help submit the patient’s application to the state. The state approval process can take up to about 30 days, which is why getting started now is important for patients who want to purchase products from The Post and other dispensaries as they open across the Commonwealth.

Legal access to marijuana in Kentucky requires keeping your card active. A Kentucky medical marijuanas card is valid for one year before a renewal is required. At Kentucky Marijuana Card, we offer renewal appointments through telemedicine so you can complete the process in the comfort of your house! Patients who receive their marijuana card in 2025 will not have to pay the state’s renewal fee in 2026, following an announcement from Governor Andy Beshear.
