Kentucky's medical marijuana program continues to expand, giving registered patients more places to shop across the state. As new dispensaries open and others prepare to welcome patients, August 2026 brings several updates worth knowing about.

From a new dispensary coming to Morehead to 3 additional High Profile locations on the way, patients have more options than ever when purchasing their medicine. Here is a look at some of the latest Kentucky dispensary news and what patients should know before visiting a dispensary.

Wildcat Cannabis Coming to Morehead

One of the newest dispensaries to watch is Wildcat Cannabis. Opening this fall, this is the first dispensary in Morehead, giving patients in the surrounding communities a local option for purchasing medical marijuana products.

As the location gets closer to opening, patients in the area can prepare by getting certified through the Kentucky medical marijuana program. For patients looking to learn about a dispensary near me in the Morehead area, we are also hosting several patient drives in partnership with Wildcat Cannabis where patients can get certified and talk to dispensary staff.

Upcoming Morehead Patient Drives

Our Morehead patient drives will take place at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites at 2650 KY 801, Morehead, KY 40351. We will be there with Wildcat Cannabis from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Monday, August 17, 2026

  • Monday, August 24, 2026

  • Monday, August 31, 2026

Both new and renewal patients are welcome. During the event, our marijuana doctors will evaluate patients who are interested in getting or renewing their medical marijuana card and answer questions about the process. Your appointment takes place at the patient drive location, and if you are approved, your medical certification and state application process can be completed before you leave.

Appointments for the Morehead patient drives are first come, first served, and spots can fill up quickly, so we recommend prebooking your appointment to secure your spot.

Attending one of these patient drives can be a convenient way to get prepared before Wildcat Cannabis officially opens this fall. If you have been searching for Wildcat Cannabis Morehead, a dispensary near me, or are looking to get a Kentucky marijuana card, these events are an opportunity to meet both of our teams.

What Happens at Our Patient Drives?

Patient drives are an important part of helping Kentuckians get access to the state's medical marijuana program. These events bring our marijuana practitioners and patient support team to communities throughout Kentucky, making it easier for qualifying patients to complete the certification process.

We're coming to cities across Kentucky, including:

Events may be held at dispensary locations, community venues, or other convenient locations.

During a patient drive, patients can meet with one of our marijuana practitioners for an evaluation. The practitioner reviews the patient's medical history and qualifying condition to determine whether the patient meets the requirements for medical marijuana certification.

Renewal patients can also attend patient drives, and it is important to renew on time to avoid an interruption in access to dispensaries. The state can take up to 30 days to review and approve your application, so patients should complete their renewal appointment and submit their application well before their current certification expires. Renewing early gives the state enough time to process the application and helps ensure you do not lose access to Kentucky dispensaries while waiting for your new card.

Patients should bring a government-issued photo ID and medical records related to their qualifying condition to their appointment. Kentucky's qualifying conditions include:

Patients may also qualify for a condition without realizing it. For example, chronic pain can sometimes be a symptom or side effect of another medical condition, so it may be worth discussing your symptoms and medical history with a marijuana doctor.

If you do not have medical records verifying a qualifying condition, Diagnosis Consultations are available when appropriate to determine whether you may have a qualifying condition. A Diagnosis Consultation is not necessary for patients who already have medical records verifying their qualifying condition or returning patients who have an existing qualifying diagnosis. When a Diagnosis Consultation is appropriate, it requires a $39 consultation fee, and Auren Alternative Health, our parent company, does not guarantee approval of any diagnosis.

Renewal patients should also bring information about their current medical marijuana certification.

Our team helps patients understand the state registration process and assists with submitting the necessary information during their appointment. This can be especially helpful for those who are getting their first Kentucky medical marijuanas card and are unfamiliar with the state's system.

Patients can check our events calendar for upcoming patient drives and current event information!

More Kentucky Dispensaries Are Opening

Wildcat Cannabis is not the only new location to watch this month. The number of Kentucky dispensaries continues to grow, with several locations that have opened recently and additional stores expected in the coming months.

NatureMed

NatureMed recently expanded its Kentucky presence with a new Murray location. The company also operates in Paducah and Erlanger and will be opening a location in Carrollton. Patients looking for a dispensary near me in Western Kentucky now have more options as the dispensary network expands.

High Profile

High Profile is also continuing its Kentucky expansion after opening its London location at 140 Faith Assembly Church Road earlier this year. The company has announced plans for additional Kentucky locations, with Wilder expected in August, Lexington in September, and Shelbyville in October.

Speakeasy

Speakeasy continues to expand its presence across Kentucky, with its new Stanford location now open at 993 U.S. 27. The dispensary has also recently opened a Corbin location, giving patients in more areas convenient access to medical marijuana.

Why Get Your Card Before a New Dispensary Opens?

New dispensary openings can create more convenient options for patients, but patients still need to complete the state requirements before they can purchase medical marijuana. The state can take up to 30 days to review and approve a patient's application, so it is important to allow enough time for the process.

Getting your certification or renewing ahead of time gives you an opportunity to complete the necessary steps before a new location opens. That can be particularly helpful if you have been watching for a new dispensary in your area or have been searching online for a dispensary near me.

Staying Up to Date With Kentucky Dispensaries

Kentucky's dispensary network is changing quickly. New locations are opening, businesses are expanding into additional communities, and upcoming stores are moving closer to serving patients.

Our Kentucky dispensary locations page provides information about dispensaries throughout the state, while our patient-drive calendar provides information about upcoming opportunities to meet with our marijuana practitioners.

If you are not yet registered with Kentucky's medical marijuana program, you can schedule an appointment with Kentucky Marijuana Card to meet with one of our marijuana practitioners. As more dispensaries open across Kentucky, having your certification ready means you can take advantage of new locations as they become available.
