Lexington is about to make medical marijuana history! A new medical marijuana dispensary is set to open in the heart of the city, transforming a well-known former restaurant into one of Kentucky’s first retail locations under the state’s medical marijuana program.

The site, previously home to Frisch’s Big Boy on Harrodsburg Road, will soon reopen as Dark Horse Cannabis, a licensed dispensary ready to serve qualifying patients in Fayette County and beyond.

A Familiar Landmark, A New Purpose

Located at 1927 Harrodsburg Road, the former Big Boy has long been a recognizable fixture for Lexington locals. Now, the building is being reimagined to serve a new kind of customer, patients certified under Kentucky’s medical marijuana program.

Dark Horse Cannabis chose the location for its visibility, convenient access, and existing infrastructure. Renovations are already underway to transform the space into a secure, welcoming, and compliant facility. The dispensary will be operated by Enlite, a Louisville-based company licensed to cultivate, process, and dispense medical marijuana across the state.

Don’t Wait, Get Your Medical Marijuana Card Now!

Dispensaries like Dark Horse Cannabis are expected to open later this year, but if you're considering using medical marijuana, now is the time to get your card. It takes about 30 days for the state to process and approve applications, so getting started early ensures you won’t be left waiting once dispensaries open their doors.

At Kentucky Marijuana Card, we’re already seeing patients at our Lexington and Louisville offices, helping them complete the necessary steps to become certified. Our medical team provides evaluations, guidance on the application process, and ongoing support for patients. Qualifying conditions include cancer, epilepsy, chronic pain, PTSD, chronic nausea, and multiple sclerosis. You can schedule an appointment directly through our website and start getting the relief you deserve.

Lexington Leads the Way

The opening of Dark Horse Cannabis marks a major milestone for Lexington and for Kentucky as a whole. As one of the first dispensaries in the state, it’s helping to reshape both a familiar local landmark and the conversation around medical marijuana access. The building’s transformation from burgers to buds has even inspired a playful nickname: Big Buds.

But behind the lighthearted name is a serious step forward in patient care. With more dispensaries expected across Fayette County and the rest of the state, Kentucky is entering a new era of access, education, and empowerment for those living with qualifying conditions.

Whether you're in Lexington, Louisville, or anywhere else in the state, now is the time to take action. Start your medical marijuana card application today, so you're ready when dispensaries like Dark Horse officially open their doors. Getting certified early ensures you won’t miss out on day one access to legal, state-approved medical marijuana in Kentucky.
