Under Kentucky's current medical marijuana framework, fibromyalgia can potentially support eligibility when a patient's condition involves chronic, severe, intractable, or debilitating pain that meets the state's qualifying criteria.

Step 1: Meet Kentucky's Eligibility Requirements

An applicant must satisfy Kentucky's patient requirements and have a qualifying medical condition.

For someone with fibromyalgia, the relevant qualifying category may be chronic, severe, intractable, or debilitating pain.

Step 2: Visit an Authorized Medical Marijuana Practitioner

Patients must receive a written certification from an authorized Kentucky medical marijuana practitioner.

Patients should therefore follow the current Kentucky Medical Marijuana Program rules and obtain products through lawful channels established under Kentucky law.

What Should You Tell Your Practitioner?

• Where you experience pain

• How frequently symptoms occur

• Treatments or medications you have tried

• Whether the pain interferes with sleep

Medical Marijuana Isn't Right for Everyone

Marijuana can produce side effects, particularly products containing THC. Possible effects can include dizziness, sleepiness, impaired coordination, changes in perception, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating.

Patients should also discuss possible drug interactions with their healthcare providers.
