What to Know About Delta 8

In many states where medical marijuana is not currently legal, delta 8 products have become popular over the years. This is due to the fact that delta 8 products give you a similar high to marijuana products.

Even so, delta 8 and marijuana products are more different than they are similar. Medical marijuana is tried and true, which is why 38 states have enacted medical marijuana programs. The same cannot be said for delta 8 products.

Delta 8 THC is a psychoactive substance which is found in marijuana sativa plants. It is one of the many cannabinoids naturally produced by marijuana plant.

Why Is Delta 8 Dangerous?

No delta 8 products have been evaluated or approved by the FDA for safe use. There are many concerns with these products, such as their content, chemicals, and product labeling. Sometimes, they are labeled as hemp products, and people assume they are not psychoactive.

They are also being marketed as medical products, when in fact the FDA has not approved them for safe use. Selling delta 8 products and marketing them as medical specimens is a violation of federal law and puts many consumers at risk.

Adverse Event Reports

The FDA has received 104 reports of adverse events from people consuming delta-8 THC within about a year. Here is some data of those reports according to the FDA:

  • 77% involved adults, 8% involved pediatric patients less than 18 years of age, and 15% did not report age.

  • 55% required intervention (e.g., evaluation by emergency medical services) or hospital admission.

  • 66% described adverse events after ingestion of delta-8 THC-containing food products (e.g., brownies, gummies).

  • Adverse events included, but were not limited to: hallucinations, vomiting, tremor, anxiety, dizziness, confusion, and loss of consciousness.

Delta 8 Chemicals

Manufacturers of delta 8 THC products use potentially unsafe chemicals which could be very harmful to consumers. These chemicals are going directly into users bodies when they inhale delta 8 products.

The Bottom Line

Delta 8 products have not been approved by the FDA and are harmful to consumers. They are being labeled incorrectly, allowing consumers to believe they are medical products that offer relief.
