Kentucky is taking a major step forward in its rollout of the state’s medical marijuana program. With dispensaries set to open soon, Governor Andy Beshear recently announced the launch of a new online directory that gives patients and the public a first look at where medical marijuana dispensaries will be located.
This interactive medical marijuana dispensary map, available on the Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program website, offers valuable insight into the locations of these dispensaries without them being open yet.
A Preview of Dispensary Locations Across Kentucky
While dispensaries are not yet open, this new map allows users to explore locations that have already received licenses to operate. So far, Kentucky has approved licenses for 17 dispensaries across 14 counties, with more expected to be announced.
Governor Beshear described the map as a tool to help patients “know what to expect” and said it reflects his administration’s commitment to transparency and accessibility in the rollout of medical marijuana services.
The map includes addresses, licensee names, and approval statuses, allowing patients to start planning which dispensary may be most convenient for them once doors officially open.
Fee Relief for Medical Marijuana Patients
In another win for medical marijuana patients, Governor Beshear also announced that renewal fees for Kentucky medical marijuana cards will be waived for the remainder of the year. This move helps reduce barriers to access, especially as patients begin to navigate this new healthcare option.
"Now people went ahead and got that card and I realize we don't have the dispensaries open, we want to make sure Kentuckians aren't paying for a card they can't use in 2025 so I signed an executive order today that will waive the 2026 application fee for any 2025 cardholder," Beshear said.
He signed an executive order this past Thursday that would waive the $25 state renewal fee for those who obtained their cards this year and will be reapplying in 2026.
What This Means for Patients
These developments signal that Kentucky is serious about providing safe, regulated, and accessible medical marijuana options for residents with qualifying conditions. While we don’t have an exact date of when dispensaries will open, having a visual map of where they’ll be located helps patients prepare in advance.
Patients can now:
Identify dispensary locations near them
Monitor progress and opening dates
Take advantage of fee waivers by renewing their medical marijuana card
Once dispensaries open, patients can see who will be offering specific products or services
